Hi, my name is Mashood. I graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA in English Language and Literature.
I teach English Language, English Literature, History, and Philosophy and Theology, from Secondary School to undergraduate level. I have been teaching and presenting since Secondary school; teaching lessons, creating presentations and delivering seminars, marking student assignments and essays, and creating detailed revision guides for exam revision.
I have experience in all of the major English exam boards for these subjects, and am thus able to teach them to a high degree. I believe the best way for students to understand language and literature is for them to read as much as they can. As such, in my lessons I aim to focus on evoking the students’ creativity through discussing a passage from a text, an image, or both, and exploring how meaning is created.
Once creativity is initiated, which is the basis for both creative writing and literary analysis, we will focus on understanding the texts and the wider ideas. I also believe that the study of literature should never be limited to simply ‘literary’ texts, but include the study of history, philosophy, theology, and art, the study of all of which is fundamentally literary study. I believe that it is in this manner of study that the genuine aesthetic, rhetorical, and moral virtues of literature are acquired.
My academic interests centre on early modern literature, especially in the areas of Reformation Eschatology, Renaissance metaphysics, Islam and Early Modern Europe, Classical Reception, and Renaissance Art. I also have interests in later Augustan and Romantic literature and philosophy, as well as ancient literature, theology, and philosophy.
